What?! Forget September 2016 and May 2017. No, According to Yahoo Sports, Golden Boy Promotions and K2 Promotions have agreed to a #CaneloGGG clash in September of 2017. As boxing fans, we’ve seen it with Mayweather vs Pacquiao and countless other blockbuster fights in boxing. Waiting too long for a “Super Fight” proves lucrative for the promoters but disappointing to the fans. Waiting this long for two of the best in boxing never eds well.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) has ordered Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin. If both parties fail to reach an agreement by May 24, 2016 the WBC will schedule a purse bid.

WBO Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders was offered a seven figure payday to face Gennady Golovkin in a unification match on April 23, however, Saunder’s turned down the offer to face Max Bursak. Back in early January Saunders said he was prepared to face the heavy-hitting GGG in the UK. Looks like we will have to wait for a middleweight unification fight to happen.
Saturday October 17, in front of 20,548 rabid fans at Madison Square Garden, Golovkin methodically beat down a game David Lemieux to unify the Middleweight titles. Saturday’s stoppage of Lemieux marked Golovkin’s 21st straight KO and his 15th successful defense of his titles. You got to give credit to Lemieux who unlike other fighters stepped up to face the devastating puncher in GGG.
With his victory on Saturday, GGG and the rest of the boxing world will have their eyes on the November 21, 2015 battle, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Miguel Cotto for the WBC World middleweight title.
